I signed up for Mobile Innovations new Voice-over-IP service today. For $19.95 a month you get a box that plugs in to your broadband service and delivers a standard phone line. Untimed local calls are 10c and include calls to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane & Adelaide. Other calls within Australia are 10c per minute, billed per second and 30c per minute to mobiles.
They are still in “trial” mode so they don’t recommend you disconnect your Telstra line just yet, but once they go live I can use my cable modem and cancel my copper line – the price of which keeps going up
