According to this report Australian IT – Music piracy war unleashed in the Australian, ARIA have brought action against the creator of a web site www.mp3s4free.net and the Internet provider Comcen. This is the same provider that hosts this web page.
There are a couple of things about this case that I find interesting.
- Comcen has not shut down the named website –
It is good to see an hosting provider that does not shut down sites in a knee-jerk reaction to as yet unproven allegations. - Based on a quick look at the web site, it does not appear to host any mp3s, but rather a database of links to mp3s on other sites. Using this criteria, this link could make this site a target for ARIA action.
I am not advocating music piracy, nor suggesting that the music industry should not target large-scale piracy, but I would be happier if I though that they were expending the same effort to provide legal services
